Reporting to the Head of Department - Health Sciences the position holder will be responsible for the following, amongst others:
- To teach in areas allocated by the Head of Department.
- Design, develop, plan and deliver a range of programmes of study, sometimes for entirely new courses at various levels.
- Deliver high-quality lectures and practicals.
- Oversee clinical practice, providing students with real-world learning experiences and guidelines in hospitals or clinical settings.
- Review course content and materials on a regular basis, updating when required.
- Collaborate with academic colleagues on course development, curriculum changes and the development of research activities.
- Carry out research and write research grant proposals.
- Seek and participate in consultancies.
- Present research papers at national or international conferences and other similar events.
- Dissemination of research outputs.
- Provide mentorship and career guidance to students and staff.
- Ensure all academic activities align with the standards of the Nursing Council of Kenya.
- Any other duty that may be assigned from time to time by the supervisor.
- PhD/Doctorate in Nursing (Medical-Surgical, Midwifery, Paediatrics, Critical Care, Community Health Nursing) or equivalent degree qualification in a relevant area from an accredited university.
- Master of Science Nursing (Medical-Surgical, Midwifery, Paediatrics, Critical Care, Community Health Nursing) or equivalent degree qualification in a relevant area from an accredited university.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree or a relevant field from a recognised/accredited University.
- A minimum of thirty-two (32) equivalent publication points as a Lecturer/ Research Fellow of which twenty-four (24) should be from refereed journal articles.
- At least 3 years of teaching/ research experience at the university level as a Lecturer/Research Fellow or six (6) years of research/industry experience.
- Supervised at least two (2) postgraduate students to completion.
- Attracted research funds as a Lecturer/ Research Fellow.
- Evidence of leadership (administrative experience, active participation in departmental /school/university/national/international activities).
- Attended and contributed at academic conferences, seminars and workshops.
- A valid practising licence from the Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK).
