We are seeking a strategic, forward-thinking, industry-connected, and student-centric academic leader to lead teaching for student success and with entrepreneurial acumen to foster research and innovation ecosystems. The ideal candidate has a demonstrable capability to bridge academia and industry and can leverage industry insights to create and implement market-driven curricula. They are an administrative expert with excellent people leadership skills and are adaptable to a fast-paced, entrepreneurial, and collaborative working environment.
- Overseeing curriculum development and review, ensuring relevance to industry needs for high graduate employability.
- Processing students' admissions, receiving and orienting them.
- Maintenance of quality standards by overseeing all teaching and examination processes in the department.
- Timely resolutions of students and staff concerns.
- People management, including performance, work attendance, leave, and discipline management, among others.
- Establishing and maintaining high-value industry, academia, and research partnerships and collaborative networks.
- Spearheading Research and Innovation.
- Designing and executing the departmental growth strategy.
- Any other duties that may be assigned.
Reporting to the Dean School of Education, Arts, and Social Sciences, the position holder will be responsible for:
- PhD, Masters and Bachelor degree specialising in any of these areas: Hospitality Studies, International Relations, Media Studies, Communication Studies or any area related to the mentioned specialisations from an accredited university.
- At least three years of teaching experience at the university level and at least a years proven management and administrative experience.
- Has published and attended and/or contributed in academic conferences, seminars, and workshops.
- A visionary with the agility to lead the School to stay relevant in the rapidly changing industry landscapes.
- Demonstrable skills as a strategic leader who bridges academia and industry, focusing on sustainable growth and market-driven educational value.
- Is up-to-date with industry standards and has established noteworthy linkages with the industry.
- Has firm commitment to the sustainability of their school.
- Membership to a relevant professional body.
The position-holder will primarily be employed as teaching staff on permanent and pensionable terms but will hold the Chair of Department position on a three-year renewable contract.
