supports the daily operations of the university library by assisting in information services, cataloging, user support, and resource management. This role involves direct interaction with students, faculty, and staff, helping them locate and access information, use library systems, and develop research skills.
- Building collections to respond to changing University needs or demands.
- Writing grants to gain funding for an expanded program or collections.
- Conducting regular stock takes to establish collection quantities, identifying gaps for lost collection and working to seal them;
- Overseeing the security of the physical and e-collection by supervising movement.
- Facilitating Library inspections and audits by any regulatory body.
- Advising on the budget and budgetary needs of the Library.
- Overseeing the cataloguing of new receipts and established collections as well as classifying and tracking media throughout campus on an as-needed basis;
- Organising library stock (shelving and shelf reading) to facilitate the identification and retrieval of information resources.
- Planning and directing library promotion and outreach activities.
- Facilitating Information Literacy skills awareness among the library users.
- Charging and discharging library information resources to users for various information needs.
- Ensuring that the library services meet the needs of particular groups of users.
- Advising on the relevant Library materials to support new and ongoing academic programmes.
- Leading the development of policies, procedures and systems workflows, documentation and training materials.
- Any other duties may be assigned from time to time by the supervisor or as captured in the detailed job description.
- A minimum of a Master's degree in Library and Information Science or related field from an accredited Institution.
- Experience working in an academic or research library is an advantage.
- Familiarity with library management systems (e.g., Koha, Alma, Sierra).
- Good communication, customer service, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Basic IT skills, including proficiency in office applications and digital databases.
- Strong research skills in navigating online databases and retrieving scholarly materials
